Ekiden runs a six-leg, 217.1 km coast-road relay race the way the organisation actually runs the day. The Race Control board is the live command view: every leg as a dense row with distance and elevation gain, the current leader team and bib, the split time, the projected exchange time at the next zone, the gap to second in seconds, the road-closure status for that segment and the sweep vehicle's position in kilometres, over an open-incident strip. Around it: 42 teams of six with club or corporate affiliation, region, seeding and every runner's bib, leg assignment and personal best; eleven exchange zones with sash-handover windows, marshal counts and cut-off times; a splits ledger reconciling chip times leg by leg; a hand-drawn course profile with gradient and closure by chainage; 1,400 volunteers rostered to posts by shift; nine aid stations with water, gel and medical stock; four sweep vehicles and the transport plan; and a broadcast feed schedule for the live production. Runners and clubs get their own portal for start times, bib collection and leg instructions. Built as a newspaper-front horizontal fold — screaming condensed display type, halftone grounds, tabular mono figures, ruled result grids and a live results ticker banded across the bottom.
